Spot Price Electricity in Finland – Compare Contracts
With a spot-price contract, the energy rate follows the wholesale market. Your bill reflects the spot price when you use electricity, the supplier’s margin and a monthly standing charge. Compare all three for your postcode and consumption. The spot figure shown here is an API estimate, not a live price.

Household spot-price electricity supply contracts only. Enter your own annual consumption; no assumed usage is applied. Results are ranked by the existing estimated annual cost. Distribution is not included.
Product details come from open data published by the Finnish Energy Authority’s Sähkönhinta.fi service. Fiksusti syncs the catalogue and filters it by postcode and your choices. We rank results by estimated annual cost using your stated consumption and the product’s energy and monthly charges. Electricity retailers are responsible for product information.
How does a spot-price electricity contract work?
What does spot-price electricity mean?
A spot-linked contract usually follows the Nord Pool day-ahead market under the pricing formula in your agreement. Prices vary by time and market conditions. Your supplier adds the contract margin and standing charge.
How is a spot electricity bill calculated?
The energy charge reflects market prices during your usage hours plus the contract margin. A monthly standing charge is added separately. Your final bill also includes separate electricity distribution and electricity tax. Fiksusti’s annual estimate uses the API SpotFutures value; it is not a live spot price or your personal hourly usage profile.
What is the supplier margin?
The margin is the supplier’s contract-specific charge per kilowatt-hour, added to the market price. Compare the margin, while also considering the monthly fee and the prices at the times you use electricity.
Why does the monthly fee matter?
A standing charge is usually billed each month regardless of consumption. A low margin alone does not guarantee a low total cost if the monthly fee is higher. The annual estimate includes the fee provided in the product data.
Is spot electricity always the cheapest?
No. Total cost depends on market prices, when you use electricity, the contract margin and monthly fee, and any contract terms. The spot estimate uses the API’s current model; it cannot guarantee future prices.
Who might prefer a spot-price contract?
It may suit you if you are comfortable with changing prices, want an electricity rate linked to the market, and can shift some usage to cheaper periods when practical. The benefit of shifting use depends on hourly prices and your own habits.
When might spot electricity not suit you?
If you want a predictable energy rate or price swings could put pressure on your budget, a fixed-rate contract may feel more suitable. Spot prices can rise quickly, and an annual estimate cannot predict your future bill with certainty.
What are the risks?
Market prices can vary sharply, and higher prices affect your bill in proportion to your usage at those times. The API estimate is not a live price or a promise of future annual cost. Check the margin, standing charge, price formula and supplier terms before signing.
Spot pricing or a fixed-rate contract?
Spot pricing follows the market and can make bills more variable. With a fixed-rate contract, the energy unit price is agreed for the contract period, while the total still depends on usage. Compare both with your own consumption and decide whether market exposure or price predictability matters more to you.
How does usage affect the cost?
Your total usage affects how much margin you pay. With spot pricing, the time of use also affects which market prices apply. This comparison uses the API’s annual spot estimate and a general consumption model, not your individual hourly profile.
How do you switch to a spot contract?
First check the switching terms of your current contract. Compare the new contract’s margin, monthly fee and pricing terms. Confirm the final price and start date with the supplier. Electricity distribution remains with your local network operator.
