Fixed-Term Electricity Contracts in Finland

A fixed-term electricity contract runs for a period stated in the product terms. The term describes how long the agreement lasts; it does not by itself tell you how the energy price is set. Check whether the rate is fixed, linked to spot prices or based on another model, and review the terms for changes, ending the contract and moving home.

How to compare a fixed-term offer

A contract term and a pricing model answer different questions. Check both in the product information: the API contract type determines which offers appear below, while the pricing model explains how the energy rate is formed.

  • A fixed-term offer may suit you when its duration and terms fit your plans.
  • Check the contract period, pricing model, energy rate and standing charge separately.
  • If your circumstances may change, review the moving-home and termination terms first.
  • If flexibility or exposure to market prices matters to you, compare other contract types as well.

Household contracts identified by the API as fixed-term. Enter your postcode and annual consumption to see matching offers ranked by the existing estimated annual cost. Contract duration and pricing model are shown only when supplied in the product data.

Product details come from open data published by the Finnish Energy Authority’s Sähkönhinta.fi service. Fiksusti syncs the catalogue and filters it by postcode and your choices. We rank results by estimated annual cost using your stated consumption and the product’s energy and monthly charges. Electricity retailers are responsible for product information.

Student-restricted offers use the same eligibility checks as the main comparison: age 18–25, full-time studies and annual usage below 5,000 kWh. Standard household offers are also compared. Confirm any additional supplier conditions before signing.

Fixed-term contracts: questions and answers

What is a fixed-term electricity contract?

A fixed-term contract has a contract period defined in the product terms. The duration and other conditions are specific to the offer. The term alone does not tell you how the energy rate is calculated or when the agreement can be changed.

Is every fixed-term contract fixed-rate?

No. Contract duration and pricing model are separate details. The product data stores them in separate fields: a fixed-term offer may have a fixed rate, spot-linked pricing or a hybrid model. Check the product price and terms before signing.

How long does a fixed-term contract last?

The period depends on the individual product terms. The comparison shows a duration only when it is present in the product data. You should not assume every contract has the same term.

Fixed-term or open-ended electricity contract?

A fixed-term product has a contract period stated in its terms. An open-ended contract does not use the same pre-set term. Switching flexibility, price changes and what happens next depend on the specific product and your circumstances.

Fixed-term or spot-price electricity?

Fixed-term describes duration; spot pricing describes how the energy rate is linked to the market. Both can appear in the same product details, so check each separately. Read our spot-price vs fixed guide or compare spot-price contracts.

Can I switch during the contract period?

Do not assume the same answer applies to every contract or situation. Check your agreement and ask the supplier how its terms apply to you. Moving home may have separate conditions.

What happens when the contract ends?

The product and agreement terms determine what happens next. Check the end date, whether the contract continues after the term and whether you need to make a new agreement. Do not assume the same rate will continue.

How does the standing charge affect the total?

A standing charge is usually billed each month in addition to energy usage. It can account for a larger share of the cost when consumption is low. Compare the energy rate and monthly fee together using your annual usage.

How can I find an affordable fixed-term contract?

Enter your postcode and annual consumption in the comparison. Products are ordered by the existing engine’s estimated annual cost when it can calculate one. Check any post-promotion rate, pricing model, contract period and terms with the supplier. The lowest estimated cost depends on usage and may not be the same for everyone.

Electricity supply and distribution

This comparison covers electricity supply contracts. Distribution is a separate service from your local network operator and is not switched in the same way as your electricity supplier.
